Directional sensing, sometimes referred to as cardioid sensing, is a type of directional characteristic where the microphone preferentially senses sounds coming from one direction (usually the front) and suppresses sounds coming from other directions. This is useful, for example, in noisy environments or when you want to capture the sound of a particular source.
