Choose a chair mat to match the type of flooring
Chair mats are divided into two types depending on the type of floor covering they are designed for.
- Mats designed for hard floors are ideal if you have parquet flooring, linoleum, tiles, etc. This type has a special anti-slip surface that adheres to the floor and makes the mat stay in place.
- Mats designed for carpets usually come with special pins, which prevent the mat from shifting. These would be useless on a hard floor and they could even damage thin linoleum flooring.
Mat shape
The following four shapes are the most common - round, rectangular, square, and rectangular with lip. Choose the shape according to your office or room layout. Rectangular chair mats with lip are ideal for corner work desks or places where there isn’t much space under the table.
Before buying, check if the wheels of your office chair are compatible with the mat.
If you have heated floors, it is recommended that you check if the mat is suitable for the flooring.
