Brainmax DHA Algae provides 250mg of pure docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in a single softgel capsule, from the marine microalga Schizochytrium sp. of Norwegian origin, the direct source from which DHA is also found in marine fish. The oil is extracted in a controlled environment and stabilised with a blend of natural tocopherols, so it maintains its freshness and low oxidation value to the GOED standard. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and the maintenance of normal vision¹.
Microalgae as a primary source of DHA
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid. The human body obtains it primarily from the diet. In nature, DHA is produced by marine microalgae, e.g. of the genus Schizochytrium, and it is only from here that it enters fish via marine zooplankton. Schizochytrium sp. is an alga that is one of the richest natural sources of DHA. Norway, where our raw material comes from, is one of the countries with the strictest quality standards in the industry.
Purity, oxidation, microbiology
For omega-3 products, the quality of the raw material plays a key role, which is why Brainmax DHA Algae uses oil from microalgae of Norwegian origin, which is stabilised with a blend of natural tocopherols to protect against oxidation.
Algae vs. fish oil: why we go straight to the source
Fish do not produce DHA themselves; they get it by eating marine microalgae. So when we take DHA directly from the algae, we skip the rest of the food chain and get the same molecule that the fish would pass on. This has several practical consequences. Throughout their lives, marine fish accumulate what they are exposed to in the ocean: mercury, dioxins, PCBs and microplastics. In contrast, the microalga Schizochytrium sp. is cultivated in a controlled environment, outside the open ocean, where contamination from open waters does not enter the process. The resulting oil also has a neutral taste and smell, unlike fish oil, with no typical fishy aftertaste.
Dosage
1 capsule daily, with a meal. Wash down with 200ml of liquid.
