Bernicle
Talented musician Daniel gradually escapes poverty and marries the sensitive Gertrude, but he is actually in love with her spirited sister, Lenora. The marriage turns into an unhappy love triangle that ends in scandal. Daniel becomes the subject of ridicule, and the people of Nuremberg call him the "Gänsemännchen" (Goose Man), after the famous statue on the local fountain depicting a man holding two geese. The text is based on a translation by Mária Klimová from the 1950s and has been minimally edited.
