Laptops

SSD

SSD or Solid-state drives do not contain moving parts like magnetic hard drives (HDDs). This allows for greater read and write speeds, which means much faster system responses when running programs, etc. However, they also offer lower capacity for the same price at the same price.

RAM

RAM (Random-Access Memory) refers to a computer's operating memory. This is type of memory stores data currently being used. It allows you to read or write data to any memory location, which makes it extremely fast. However, all data collected is lost when the computer is turned off. Therefore, it serves as a temporary repository for computer work, laptops, and also mobile phones and tablets.

Trackpoint

The trackpoint is a button on the keyboard of a laptop that controls the cursor and it's located between the G, H and B keys. It allows you to control your computer without having to lift your fingers from the keyboard. On the down side, it's not as accurate as a touchpad or mouse.

Docking Connector

A docking connector is used to connect a laptop with a docking station. It includes ports for connecting a monitor, keyboard, mouse, external hard drive and other devices. It's a great solution if you are frequently transferring your laptop between home and the office.

eMMC

eMMC memory is a less complex alternative to SSD storage, but is inferior in many aspects. While eMMC storage is slower than SSDs, they are much more affordable.

Dedicated Graphics Card

A dedicated graphics card is located on the motherboard of a laptop in the form of a separate chip. Compared to an integrated graphics card, it's more powerful, so it's better suited for playing games and working in graphics heavy applications. However, dedicated graphics cards require more efficient cooling and reduce battery life. They are usually found in larger and heavier laptops.

Integrated Graphics Card

An integrated graphics card is embedded directly into the processor. While they do not achieve such high levels of performance as dedicated graphics cards, the battery of a laptop equipped with an integrated graphics card will last longer. Devices with this type of graphics cards are suitable for office work and multimedia entertainment, but they are not ideal for running graphics-intensive games and programs.

LTE Modem

An LTE modem lets you connect your laptop to mobile networks. You can be online on the go.

TPM

The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is an encryption processor (cryptoprocessor). Encryption keys that protect data are stored on it. Laptops equipped with a TPM provide high levels of protection for stored data.

Thunderbolt 3

This is a modern port that lets you quickly charge your laptop, transfer data and connect up to two 4K monitors. The Thunderbolt 3 is based on the USB-C, sharing the shape of the connector.

UHD (4K) Resolution

Ultra high definition, known as UHD or 4K resolution, offers a smooth image and minute details. Compared to Full HD (1920x1080), Ultra HD displays have 4x more pixels (3840x2160). Such a high resolution, however, negatively impacts the battery life of the laptop.

VarioHinge

Porsche Design BOOK ONE is one of the few devices on the market that combines a convertible design and a detachable display. The Variohinge rigid stainless steel hinges help make all of this possible. The joints holding the display look and feel extreemly strong and durable. As a result, this is a device that will always be by your side.

Virtual Reality

VR or virtual reality is a hardware and software simulated environment that gives users the illusion of the real world. VR is usually used within the mobile and computer segments and can simulate game environments as well as training programs (e.g. pilot training, combat training, etc.). Virtual reality is viewed using special glasses and powerful hardware is required, usually your computer or phone.

VR Ready

This term explains itself. This is a label for any hardware device (laptops, phones, graphics cards, etc.) that is sufficiently powerful to run virtual reality.

HDMI

HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. It offers digital output with integrated sound (or network transmission) and is often used to connect laptops with other devices, such as TVs. It enables multi-channel audio and can handle up to 4K resolution (HDMI 2.0).

Next Business Day (NBD)

Next Business Day is a guarantee that some manufacturers provide for their laptops. In the event of a malfunction, the problem is diagnosed through telephone technical support, and the best and fastest remedy is then determined.

IceCool

To avoid overheating and potentially causing damage to the hardware, Asus uses special internal cooling components that ensure the surface temperature remains between 28 and 35°C. IceCool with keep your computer at a comfortable temperature even during long work or gaming sessions.

Convertible Laptops

Convertible laptops are devices with flippable or detachable displays. They are more flexible and lighter than standard laptops and offer several different modes of use.

Screen Size

The diagonal is the distance between two opposite corners of the screen, indicating the overall size of the display. It is usually written in inches (″) and does not include the variously wide screen bezels, so the final size of the device is usually slightly larger.

Image Processing Technology (IPS)

In-Plane Switching (IPS), often also known as Super TFT, is a type of LCD display technology. It offers an excellent price-performance ratio and excels in natural colours, low power consumption and wide viewing angles of up to almost 180 degrees. The screen can be viewed from all angles while the colour shade remains unchanged.
