Unified eight - SATA / SAS controller with 512 MB of dedicated DDR2 cache memory, which provides maximum performance, scalability and flexibility. Its biggest advantage is support for high-speed SATA and SAS hard drives. Most useful wherever high demands are placed on intensive data storage. Thanks to an enhanced SAS 2.0 throughput for a 6 Gbit/s PCI Express 2.0 interface, the controller is connected internally, allowing up to 60% higher sustained sequential data rates than previous generation controllers. This version of the low-profile design provides 4 ports with support for RAID configurations 0, 1, 1E, 5, 5EE, 6, 10, 50, 60. When using the optional expander there is support for up to 256 SATA or SAS hard drives. An interesting feature is support for hybrid RAID 1 and 10, where it is possible to combine SSD and HDD.
The controller is based on 2 core chip PMC-Sierra PM8013, which makes the achieved data rate up to 2 GB/s. Peak power is then up to 4.8 GB/s through the SAS 2.0 and 4 GB/s over a PCI Express 2.0 interface (8 lines). The advantage of the model is support for different versions of operating systems, compatibility with more than 300 third-party devices, and full integration with Adaptec Storage Manager for centralized management of RAID controllers through a network of Java-based graphical user interfaces with support for monitoring of SNMP and SMTP.
The controller can be purchased with the optional Adaptec Flash Module 600 (AFM-600) kit, using Zero-Maintenance Cache Protection technology with 4GB NAND flash memory, which replaces the battery backup unit and aims to eliminate data loss in case of power failure. The controller is supplied in "bulk" packs without the bundled accessories.
